A bit about me

from teacher to social media manager & agency owner

Hi, I’m Randa!

I live in West London with my husband and seven-year-old twins, Che and Rio. I’m a Palestinian-Belgian, but English is my first language.

Before taking on the world of business, I worked as an academic researcher and writer, and a secondary school teacher in inner-London comprehensive schools for 12 years.

I’d always had a goal of creating and running my own business, so I qualified as a copyeditor and started copyediting part-time alongside my teaching job in 2019.

The birth of The Social Club Media

My twins were both diagnosed autistic in 2020, and I realised I needed a better work-life balance to be more available for them.

In learning about autism and my twins’ needs, I developed a passion for serving purpose-led businesses.

My writing experience and the success of my copyediting ‘side hustle’ naturally led me to marketing, and I made my self-employment dream a reality.

I quit my teaching job, and took on a long-term media client, with whom I still work to this day.

Wanting more flexibility and prospects for my business, I took an intensive Social Media course and qualified to be a certified social media manager and consultant.

That’s when The Social Club, in its original form, came to life.

In early 2024, with business booming, I decided to turn The Social Club into an agency to expand The Social Club’s offering and serve more businesses.

And so came the birth of The Social Club Media.

While social media management continues to be the core focus of The Social Club Media, we also work with clients to provide virtual assistance in the form of copyediting, content writing and proofreading.

I love supporting other business owners in growing and expanding their businesses.

Fun fact

I host a true-crime podcast with my sister in my spare time, which has been hailed by experts like former Scotland Yard detective DCI Colin Sutton, as one of the most sensitively handles and accurate in production – high praise!

a unique point-of-view

My background as a teacher equipped me with the skills needed to create resources for businesses, manage and juggle large workloads, and work to very tight – and often unexpected – deadlines while maintaining a sense of humour!

There’s never a dull moment in teaching, and I’ve crafted a business which gives me the same level of excitement and variety.

As a neurodivergent, I have a deep understanding of how people with a unique view of the world learn, absorb information, and make decisions.

I use clear copy to perfectly convey each client’s message and ethos with visually appealing, accessibility-focused content.

my professional background

I graduated from Kingston University, London, with a BMus in Ethnomusicology, before going on to study for a Masters in Cultural Theory and Politics.

Prior to my teaching career, I also achieved a Post-Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education from Roehampton University, London.

I am a founding member of an academic research group established by Gothenberg and Birzeit Universities and have published my research in a book titled Palestinian Music and Song: Expression and Resistance Since 1990, which is published on JSTOR.

I’ve spoken as an expert on various topics at several conferences and been interviewed by a number of news outlets, including Reuters, Voice of America and BBC World News by Zainab Badawi.

My writing has featured in The Middle East in London, The Youth Times and This Week in Palestine and has been published in a book by Indiana University Press.
